Trump pointed to Chronister’s service in Tampa, Florida, as a sheriff in Hillsborough County and record of “keeping his community SAFE” in a Truth Social post announcing the nomination.

“I am pleased to nominate Sheriff Chad Chronister for Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). For over 32 years, Sheriff Chad Chronister has served the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and received countless commendations and awards for keeping his community SAFE,” he said.

In the role, Trump said Chronister will work with his pick for attorney general, Pam Bondi, to “secure the Border, stop the flow of Fentanyl, and other Illegal Drugs, across the Southern Border, and SAVE LIVES.”

Chronister was appointed to lead the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in 2017 by then-Gov. Rick Scott and was twice reelected by voters to serve in the position.

Responding to the nomination, Chronister posted on X, “It is the honor of a lifetime to be nominated by President [Trump] to serve as the Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration, and I am deeply humbled by this opportunity to serve our nation.”

The administrator of the DEA heads an agency staffed with nearly 10,000 employees in 334 offices around the world.
