Will Smith and Jada Smith are still trying to recover from the “slap heard ’round the world” at the 2022 Oscars. It’s not just their reputations that took a hit; now the couple’s charity will reportedly shut down.
According to the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation’s latest tax filing, it only received $365,870 in 2022. The year before, the celebrity couple was able to raise over $2.1 million.
Heavy-hitting donors seemingly pulled away from the foundation following the on-stage assault. Among them was American Airlines, which donated $76,160, and the Creative Arts Agency, which gave $100,000 in 2021. The two were not on the list of donors that following year. However, the airline is still credited as a sponsor and the CAA is considered a partner of the foundation’s WILL Book Club, according to the website.
There have also been questions about where exactly the funds were being used. Among them is the Rebecoming and World Rebirth Foundation, which received $15,000 from the WJSFF. Variety found that the listed address was an unmarked door between a pizzeria and a laundromat in New York, which has seemingly not been visited as it is marked with graffiti.
Another portion of its 2022 funds went to “bank overdrawn” fees, which in 2022 added up to $3,304. There were no bank fees filed for the WJSFF in 2021.
The couple’s foundation was formed in 1996.

The Washington Examiner contacted the WJSFF for comment. Another tax filing for 2023 is anticipated in the coming months.
As a result of Smith slapping Chris Rock, the actor was banned from the Oscars for 10 years. The academy promised this will not prevent Smith from being nominated for Academy Awards in the future, but he has yet to be nominated since. Additionally, Smith left the academy.
