Comedian Chelsea Handler has come under fire again for her political commentary on her ex, rapper 50 Cent.
Handler appeared on NBC’s Fallon Tonight four years ago to condemn the rapper, whose real name is Curtis James Jackson III, for endorsing Donald Trump for president ahead of the 2020 election. Trump continues to have 50 Cent’s support as he nears another presidential bid this November.
“He said he doesn’t want to go from 50 Cent to 20 Cent. I had to remind him that he was a black person, so he can’t vote for Donald Trump, and that he shouldn’t be influencing an entire swath of people who may listen to him because he’s worried about his own personal pocketbook,” Handler said, referencing 50 Cent’s viral social media post knocking President Joe Biden’s tax plan. “If he denounces Trump, I might be willing to go for another spin, if you know what I’m talking about.”
As 50 Cent visited the Capitol on Wednesday, the clip resurfaced on X, which sparked commentary surrounding Handler’s comments on race.
“The Democrat Party perpetuates racism to hold onto power. This is one of the most out-of-touch, demeaning, and racist videos I’ve seen in a while,” Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani wrote of the clip.
“If you don’t hear this and immediately recognize it as an insult to the intellectual capacity and independence of black people, then you’re a racist,” former collegiate swimmer Riley Gaines wrote.
“Can you believe the ignorance of Chelsea Handler? Absolutely,” Juanita Broaddrick, who accused former President Bill Clinton of rape, wrote.
“Dear Miss Chelsea Handler: HOW F***ING DARE YOU tell a black man that because he’s black he can only vote for Joe Biden? 50 Cent is an successful rapper, actor, television producer, and businessman. He aint your muthaf***ing slave b****! He dont take orders from massa anymore,” congressional candidate Lavern Spicer wrote. “He’s a strong and intelligent BLACK AMERICAN. WE HAVE OUR OWN THOUGHTS AND OUR OWN OPINIONS. We dont need yall fascist a**holes tryna trick us into voting for more BIDEN bulls***!”
