Congresswoman Mary Miller (R-IL) issued a press release on Wednesday suggesting that Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle should resign.

Miller’s statement comes after the apparent numerous security failures that transpired at the rally for Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday that led to an assassination attempt on the former president.

“I am gravely concerned that so many important questions remain unanswered, especially as reports suggest law enforcement and Secret Service were aware that this man posed a threat at multiple points during the day,” Miller said.

Cheatle has come under fire since the attempt on Trump’s life. She has faced criticism throughout the country, from many in Congress to billionaire Elon Musk.

“The head of the Secret Service and the leader of this security detail should resign,” Musk posted to X on Saturday.

Several Republicans in Congress echoed Musk’s sentiments about Cheatle’s resignation.

Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) called for Cheatle’s resignation earlier this week, the Washington Examiner previously reported. He also threatened to propose legislation to reduce her salary to $1 if she did not resign.

“Cheatle needs to resign. If not, I’m going to utilize the Holman Rule to take her salary down to $1 and ask her to leave,” Mills said in an interview earlier this week. “I texted Speaker Johnson today, and I said, ‘I want to head a J-13 commission. I want a full investigation away from the FBI, who is the corrupt deep state.’”

Miller agreed with Mills’ push for Cheatle’s resignation and explained why.

“I fully support the special House task force suggested by Speaker Johnson and Representative Cory Mills to investigate this matter, including the revelation that Secret Service diverted resources to a last-minute Jill Biden event in Pittsburgh despite threats from Iran against President Trump’s life,”  the congressional representative from Illinois added.

“The American people deserve answers on how the leading candidate for President came within an inch of being assassinated, and Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle should resign for failing to adequately protect President Trump,” Miller said.
