Gas prices dropped again Thursday, marking a fourth consecutive weekday of decreases at the pumps.

The price of gas continues to be a much-discussed topic during President Joe Biden’s time in office. Prices have cooled this week, as the country has experienced several straight days of decreasing prices for gas. On Thursday, the national average for a gallon of regular gas was $3.506, a slight decrease from Wednesday’s price of $3.512.

A week ago, the price was $3.544 per gallon for regular-grade gasoline. A month ago, the price was $3.440. A year ago, the average cost for a gallon of regular gas was $3.563.

On Thursday, California had the country’s most expensive gas, at $4.719, a slight decrease from Wednesday’s cost of $4.735. Mississippi had the lowest price, at $2.998 a gallon for regular gas on Thursday, a very slight decrease from Wednesday’s price of $2.999 per gallon.

Here are the gas prices for a gallon of regular-grade gas in and around Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C.

On Thursday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Washington, D.C., was $3.711. That is a slight increase from the day before in the nation’s capital, when gas was $3.706. A week ago, regular gas was also $3.709 per gallon. A month ago, it cost people in the district $3.667 per gallon.

Virginia

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia on Thursday is $3.446. This was a decrease from Wednesday’s average price of $3.454 per gallon. Also, prices are less expensive now than a week ago, when regular-grade gas was $3.477 per gallon. A month ago in Virginia, it was $3.35. Last year, a gallon of regular gas was $3.415.

Maryland

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland on Thursday was $3.539. It is a decrease from Wednesday’s price of $3.551. A week ago, the price for regular gas was $3.631 per gallon. A month ago, people in Maryland paid $3.572 for a gallon of regular gas. Prices in Maryland are more expensive than this time last year, when a gallon of regular gas cost Marylanders $3.549.

Delaware

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Delaware on Thursday was $3.476, a slight decrease from Tuesday’s price of $3.485. A week ago, the price for regular gas was $3.553 per gallon. A month ago, people in the First State were paying $3.499 for a gallon of regular gas.

Hawaii

Hawaii is the state with the second most expensive gas prices in the country. On Thursday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Hawaii is $4.695. This price is now only slightly below California. It also is slightly more expensive than Wednesday’s price of $4.694. A week ago gas was $4.688 per gallon. A month ago, gas was $4.736 per gallon.

Louisiana

Whereas Hawaii is the second most expensive state for gas prices in the country, Louisiana is the state with the second least expensive prices. On Thursday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the state was $3.104. This was a slight decrease from Wednesday’s price when a gallon of regular gas cost $3.108 per gallon. A week ago, gas cost $3.118 per gallon. These are all more expensive than a month ago when the price was $3.003 per gallon.
