Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), a hard-line Republican and member of the House Freedom Caucus, announced on Saturday that he will be entering the race for governor of Arizona after initially filing a statement of interest earlier this week.

Speaking to a crowd at an Arizona Republican Party event, Biggs invoked President Donald Trump’s signature MAGA slogan, saying, “I am jumping in formally. It is now time to Make Arizona Great Again.”

Biggs submitted a statement of interest on Tuesday of this week saying he had a “firm understanding of what the state [Arizona] needs to thrive,” but added that he was still weighing whether to enter the race.

Biggs’s entrance into the race likely pits him against Karrin Taylor Robson in the 2026 Republican primary. Robson has not yet announced her candidacy but likely has the endorsement of Trump, who said in December, “Are you running for governor … because if you do, you’re going to have my support, OK?”

Robson previously lost against Kari Lake in the Republican primary for Arizona governor in 2022 by a little over 40,000 votes. Lake went on to lose in the general election to now-Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-AZ).

Biggs was just reelected in November to Arizona’s 5th District by a wide margin, winning by over 20%.
