The Stockton Police Department announced Saturday it had arrested a suspect tied to the serial killings of late.

Wesley Brownlee, 43, was arrested on the single charge of homicide, although the San Joaquin District Attorney has 48 hours to add more charges. He was found with a firearm upon his arrest, but Stockton Police Chief Stanley McFadden did not have any information on the ownership of the weapon.

Five men were shot to death between July and September, aged 21 to 54. A sixth person has also been linked who lived in the Bay Area city of Oakland, California.

District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar said she anticipates filing additional charges other than the homicide charge during a Saturday press conference. Salazar also held a moment of silence for the victims during the conference. The victims are: Paul Alexander Yaw, Salvador William Debudey Jr., Jonathan Hernandez Rodriguez, Juan Cruz, and Lorenzo Lopez.

“Thank you for submitting the hundreds of tips,” Stockton Mayor Kevin Lincoln said.

“Based off tips coming into the department and Stockton Crime Stoppers, we were able to zero in on a possible suspect. Our surveillance team followed this person while he was driving,” McFadden wrote in a Facebook post. “We watched his patterns and determined early this morning; he was on a mission to kill. He was out hunting. He was stopped by our own team in the area of Village Green Drive and Winslow Avenue around 2 am this morning.”

“We are sure we stopped another killing,” McFadden said.

The SPD is still soliciting information surrounding Brownlee via its tipline: (209) 937-8167, and email: [email protected]. Those with information can submit tips anonymously via Stockton Crime Stoppers.
