The high-stakes showdown comes the same day early voting in Georgia commenced. It is the first of two scheduled debates in the heated electoral showdown, with the second slated for Oct. 30.

Kemp holds a lead in most polling over Abrams, raising the stakes for her heading into the verbal matchup. Abrams trails by about 5 points in the latest RealClearPolitics polling aggregate.

Topics such as abortion, election integrity, inflation, and more are expected to take center stage in the debate.
