Razor blades attached to a political campaign sign in Pennsylvania sliced a person’s fingers while they were removing it from their property, police said on Monday.
The sign for Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro (D), who is running for governor against state Sen. Doug Mastriano (R), had razor blades placed around its edges to “inflict punishment” on anyone who tried to remove the sign, according to police. The incident marked the first time the police department dealt with such a situation, the Upper Makefield Township Police Department wrote on social media.
“No matter your political affiliation, no matter your candidate preference, resorting to this type of depravity is unacceptable and criminal,” police said. “We can do better and must.”

Officers found that signs for Democratic Senate candidate John Fetterman and House candidate Ashley Ehasz also had razor blades placed around them. The signs were removed by the officers, according to police. There have not been any reports of people being injured from the other signs.
Police asked the public to inspect campaign signs that are placed on their property before attempting to remove them. If a person finds any implements added to the sign, they should immediately contact authorities.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have not made any announcement on an arrest related to the incident as of Monday night.
