Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) on Monday revealed he is pressing President Donald Trump for more funding toward battleground races in the midterm elections, as Republicans fight to stave off losses in November.

Thune said that he’s been emphasizing the question of resources for candidates during conversations with Trump and the president’s advisers, in an interview with Politico. Thune’s push comes as his party has poured massive amounts of cash into the Texas Senate race targeting Democrat James Talarico, while Republicans reportedly transferred funding from candidates in North Carolina to Kansas last week, signaling leaders view scarce resources might be best used in a state the GOP holds a better chance at holding red.
