A convicted sex offender in New Hampshire died after being struck by a car Wednesday. He had failed to return to his transitional housing unit after leaving to look for work, authorities said.

Roland Labbe, who had served prison time for the 1995 aggravated sexual assault of a child, walked outside a minimum-security Calumet Transitional Housing Unit last week and failed to come back, the New Hampshire Department of Corrections said.

He signed out from the unit at about 9 a.m one morning last week with the intention of looking for work, authorities said.

His body was found at 10:47 p.m. Wednesday, and authorities determined he had been struck by a vehicle on the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Nashua, according to a report.

Labbe, 67, was declared dead at the scene.

He was up for parole in October, according to prison records.

The car that stuck Labbe was a gray Toyota Corolla driven by a Massachusetts man, authorities said.

The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment, the report noted.
