Most Republican 2024 hopefuls will hit the campaign trail today, while one got the day started early with a little online taunting.
Former Vice President Mike Pence will campaign in Iowa, while Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) will hit two separate parades in New Hampshire, sharing the stage in that state with Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), and others. Notably absent is Donald Trump, who won’t be campaigning but did find time for social media.
LET INDEPENDENCE DAY MEAN INDEPENDENT THOUGHT, NOT GROUPTHINK
Trump shared several memes in the early hours of the morning, including one with a “F*** Biden” flag.
Trump later shared a more traditional Independence Day message, saying, “Happy Fourth of July to everyone. We are working hard, we will take back our country, and make America great again. The 2024 election is our last great chance!”
But Trump won’t be campaigning on the Fourth, per the New York Times, with his team pointing to weekend stops in Pennsylvania and South Carolina as evidence of his holiday work. Trump will also visit Iowa later this week.
Iowans looking to socialize with politicos on the Fourth of July will get two chances to see Pence, who is appearing in both Urbandale and Boone, while attendees at the Merrimack, New Hampshire, parade can see a whole host of candidates without even having to get up. DeSantis, Scott, Burgum, Will Hurd, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Perry Johnson will all be there, as will Democratic long shot and self-help guru Marianne Williamson.
President Joe Biden won’t be parading, but instead will host active-duty military for a White House barbecue before watching fireworks on the South Lawn with the visitors. He will do a campaign event, too — a meeting next door to the executive mansion with the National Education Association, a prominent teachers union.

Trump’s nontraditional July 4 campaigning may reflect his dominance in the polls. He’s averaging 52.4% of support, according to the RealClearPolitics average, drawing a clear majority against all rivals combined. DeSantis sits in a distant second with 21.5% support.
Biden is clearly ahead of his Democratic opponents, Williamson and political scion Robert F. Kennedy Jr., though his approval rating is just 42.5%.
