Attorney Ray Smith became the first defendant in former President Donald Trump’s Georgia election interference case to enter a plea.

Smith pled not guilty to all charges. He is one of 19 co-defendants, including Trump, to be indicted by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. A lawyer at the firm Smith and Liss, Smith advised alternate GOP electors who met at the Georgia Capitol building and signed documents claiming Trump had won the vote in Georgia.

“By and through undersigned counsel, Defendant [Ray Smith] hereby waives formal arraignment and enters a plea of NOT GUILTY to each and every charge of the Indictment,” the filing reads.

“It is counsel’s understanding that by filing this waiver of arraignment, prior to the arraignment date, that Mr. Smith and the undersigned counsel are excused from appearing at the arraignment calendar on September 6, 2023,” it added.

Smith faces a dozen charges, including conspiracy and false statement charges.

The remaining 18 defendants will be arraigned in Fulton County on Sept. 6.
