Good news, everybody who lost careers and friends and opportunities thanks to far-left ideology: New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez now says that “Woke 1 was crazy.”
Oh, you won’t get your job back, or get that raise you would have gotten, save for your position going to a neurodivergent two-spirit indigenous person. But you have a clip of AOC smiling and telling you that it was all crazy. So now you can all go and vote for “Woke 2: Woke Harder.”
There is context, of course, given that the ur-wokeista is now willing to admit that maybe, just maybe, people went a bit overboard in the late 2010s and early 2020s.
First, she’s eyeing a run for president. Also, she needs to get people with problematic social media histories that she’s endorsed elected — very specifically Francesca Hong, a Wisconsin socialist state legislator, who has a Twitter history of hating white people and believing that every holiday except May Day (I’m guessing) needs to be canceled because of colonialism, and stuff.

Hong is currently the frontrunner for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in Wisconsin, which means she needs to do quite a bit of reputation-laundering, stat. She’s tried pretending that Thanksgiving is now her favorite holiday, but that went over like you would imagine it would, which means it’s time to bring out the big guns.
Does AOC really believe the words that are coming out of her mouth?

(Not that Democrats have guns! Figure of speech here. Clock it if you agree big guns only belong in metaphors, not in Americans’ hands.)
In short: She brought in AOC.
Appearing on ABC News’ “This Week” on Sunday, AOC told host Jonathan Karl that Hong has “moved away from” a lot of her more obnoxious positions.
“And I have a local city councilman that has this saying: ‘Woke 1’ was crazy,” she said, laughing.
“And I think that what’s important is that we have to assess what a candidate is saying now.”

By the by, the “local city councilman” who coined that, New York City Council member Chi Ossé, had a definite reason for coining it — after he was reminded that, back in 2021, he said that a “cis white man should not be the next speaker of the Council.”

Herein lies the problem with laughing this off: “Woke 1 was crazy” does not restore any of the damage done by “Woke 1.”
It doesn’t restore the careers or reputations of the people whose lives were sacrificed at the altar of woke. It doesn’t take American society back to status quo ante. It doesn’t rebuild the businesses no longer there thanks to “fiery but mostly peaceful protests.”
What it does is wave away all our concerns about “cancel Thanksgiving” and electing a socialist who leaves a restaurant because she gets anxiety attacks around white people because, hey, the first version was a bit buggy. Haha! Mistakes were made.
What it also tells us, by calling it “Woke 1,” is that there’s a sequel in the works.
And in that clip, you can see who the protagonist will be: a woman clearly positioning herself to import Woke 2 into 1600 Pennsylvania come January of 2029.
Woke 1 may have been crazy, but Woke 2 will be just as crazy, and even more dangerous.
