New Mexico residents can automatically receive a rebate check of up to $1,000 if they file their tax returns before May 2024.
The state’s Taxation and Revenue Department began issuing rebate checks in mid-June 2023. The payments are worth up to $1,000 for married couples filing jointly, heads of households, and surviving spouses.

Single filers and married couples filing separately can receive up to $500.
Residents of New Mexico will become eligible for the rebates if they file a 2021 tax return and are not declared dependent on another tax return. The rebate is available for those who filed, and will file, by May 31, 2024.
Once a tax return is filed, they will receive the payment automatically.
Those who don’t qualify for a rebate should have received some money from the state through New Mexico’s economic relief payment program for 2023. Applications for the relief payments opened on June 12 and closed on June 30. Distribution of the relief payments ended in July.
