Former President Donald Trump is not afraid of going to prison despite facing four criminal trials, saying, “I’m built a little differently.”

“I don’t even think about it,” Trump told NBC’s Meet the Press moderator Kristen Welker in an interview aired on Sunday. “I’m built a little differently, I guess, because I have had people come up to me and say, ‘How do you do it, sir? How do you do it?’ I don’t even think about it.”

Trump, who remains the leading front-runner for the 2024 Republican nomination to face off against President Joe Biden, came back to Welker’s question at another point in the interview, suggesting it stuck with him.

“When you say, do I lose sleep? I sleep,” he said. “I sleep. Because I truly feel that, in the end, we’re going to win.”

Trump is facing two federal criminal cases, one over his alleged mishandling of classified documents after leaving office and another over an alleged attempt to subvert the 2020 election results, the latter of which culminated in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol by a mob of his supporters.

When asked about his recent comments to a supportive crowd when he said, “I am your retribution,” Trump clarified he was speaking about “fairness,” adding he sees the prison sentences for some Jan. 6 rioters to be unfair when compared to punishments for people who joined in racial justice protests, some of which caused vast amounts of property damage and violence in cities across the nation.

“When I talk about retribution, I’m talking about fairness,” he said. “We have to treat people fairly. These people on Jan. 6, they went — some of them never even went into the building, and they’re being given sentences of, you know, many years.” Trump also said he would look into pardoning some of the imprisoned rioters.

The former president engaged in a wide-ranging interview that spanned subjects from his own legal troubles to the war in Ukraine, with subjects in between, such as his calls for Republicans to stop pushing abortion bans with no exceptions and his comments on the impeachment inquiry against Biden announced by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) last week.

Trump said he had nothing to do with Republicans’ efforts to impeach Biden, denying that he spoke with McCarthy about the impeachment.

“I don’t talk to him like that,” Trump said, adding that the speaker wouldn’t launch an inquiry “based on me.”

Trump also kept mum when asked about his strategies for how he would negotiate between Russia and Ukraine to end the war, and also wouldn’t divulge any strategies if China were to invade Taiwan.

“I won’t say. I won’t say,” Trump said in response to a question about Taiwan. “Because if I said, I’m giving away — you know, only stupid people are going to give that.”
