Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young attempted to make a case for aiding Ukraine in the name of US national security.
Young appeared on Face the Nation Sunday to address Americans’ concerns with border security. As the head of the budget, Young spun the argument around to justify President Joe Biden’s supplemental funding proposal to Congress. In it, the president has recommended some $60 billion go to Ukraine, while $14 billion should go to Israel.

“The one thing I do take issue with is Americans want their national security taken care of. We agree with that. What happens if Putin marches through Ukraine? What’s next? NATO countries,” Young said. “Our sons and daughters are at risk of being a part of a larger conflict and it’s not just Putin, other dictators watching what Congress is doing. What is — what signal does that send? So our national security is also influence with not providing Ukraine.”
Ukraine is approaching the second year in its conflict against Russia. The U.S. has sent $44 billion to the country to aid in its fight.
Meanwhile, Customs and Border Protection saw almost 241,000 immigrants attempt to cross the border at ports of entry in October, which was a decline from September’s historic record of almost 270,000. Over 10 million immigrants have reportedly entered the country illegally since Biden took office. It is the most recorded in that amount of time of any administration.

The House has successfully passed a bill to reduce Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’s salary over his handling of recent influxes in immigration. However, it is unlikely to pass the Senate as the chamber is controlled by a Democratic majority. Another attempt to impeach Mayorkas has been tabled.
This comes after the White House began auctioning off unused portions of the border wall in August rather than store them. When Biden took office, he thwarted the efforts of former President Donald Trump to build the wall at the southern border. All the unused parts of the wall went to storage in the Southwest for $130,000 daily. It has cost $47 million a year over the almost three years Biden has been in office. Instead nearly 700 lots were sold for millions of dollars.
