Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) claimed his fervent support for President Joe Biden stemmed from frustration over others not touting his achievements.

Newsom, while speaking in an interview with Brian Tyler Cohen posted on Sunday, said he and others have to “show up” for Biden and promote his achievements as the president seeks a second term in the White House.

“A little frustration? I mean, I’m gonna get in trouble. But, I mean, we got to show up for this guy. He’s shown up for us the last three years, the American people,” Newsom said.

He went on to tout the bipartisan infrastructure law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and low unemployment numbers for various groups. Newsom also explained that while there are others who do “an amazing job” touting Biden’s record, there should be more people promoting the Biden agenda.

“A lot of people do an amazing job. Like they’re out there for this guy for our for Team Biden, but I think we need to get more of us. We need reinforcement with pride. We’re not pulling teeth here. We’ve got the record. I mean, [Republicans] don’t. They have rhetoric,” Newsom said. “They say, well, we’re going to lower interest rates. Really? How are you going to do that? We’re going to — inflation is out of control, but what are you going to do about it? They got nothing. They have literally nothing.”

Newsom then discussed how some Republican presidential candidates are renewing a push to repeal and replace Obamacare, and he stressed that Democrats in office matter, including in the presidency.

“Democrats in legislatures matter, Democratic governors matter, Democratic local leaders matter, and our president matters,” Newsom said. “And I’ll tell you, if we can’t have the back of the guy who’s done more in three years than any president in my lifetime, Democrats, I don’t know what we deserve.”

Newsom has been an advocate for Biden, even as rumors swirl that he may run for the White House in the future. The California governor has denied that he will run for president in 2024 and has endorsed Biden.
