The View co-host Sunny Hostin attempted to argue that the recent ruling on frozen embryos was about race to no avail among her fellow co-hosts.

Friday’s episode included a discussion of the Alabama Supreme Court decision that declared cryogenically frozen embryos are “extrauterine children.” As a result, in vitro fertilization procedures throughout the state have been halted in order to protect medical staff and patients from facing criminal charges surrounding the treatment of these embryos. Hostin tried to make the decision about race.

“Multicultural Americans are going to become the majority population by 2050,” Hostin said. “At this time, the birthrate for white Americans in this country has been falling since the Great Recession and it’s dropped almost 23% between 2007 and 2022.”

“But wouldn’t more white women be getting the IVF?” Joy Behar interrupted.

“That’s why they want IVF, but they can’t say yes. They’re coming out sort of against it and not being able to explain why,” Hostin said. “They want to have more American white children born because the birthrate has gone down.”

Her fellow co-hosts disagreed, pointing to how expensive an IVF procedure can be.

“I don’t see this as a race issue,” Sara Haines said. “That’s not a race thing, it’s a money thing.”

“Republicans want to stop rich people from having children,” Behar said.

“Well no, but it’s race and it’s also about the queer community,” Hostin retorted. “Because who uses IVF? The LGBTQ community also using IVF and surrogacy and they don’t want that.

Hostin and her husband had both of their children through IVF. She also expressed her anti-abortion views during the episode, saying “an embryo is the beginning of human life” and “the government shouldn’t be involved” in any issue surrounding fertility and pregnancy.
