At least one person is dead after a police-involved shooting Tuesday morning on Wisconsin Avenue in Northwest, Washington, D.C.
Police were responding to the scene where a man shot a woman, and then law enforcement officers shot the man. He was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead. The woman’s status is unclear.
After the incident between the man and woman, the suspect then jumped on a Metrobus, according to authorities. The police tracked down the bus a few stops later at Porter Street and evacuated the other passengers. When law enforcement approached the suspect, he appeared to reach for a gun, according to police.
Authorities have not announced what led up to the shooting or the identities of the victims.
The 3600 block through the 4000 block of the street in the Tenleytown area has been shut down, according to police. The shooting occurred close to Sidwell Friends School, a private school that serves students ages pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
The road closures have caused residual delays due to detours in D.C.’s transit system for the bus lines that run along Wisconsin Avenue.
