Former President Donald Trump endorsed Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) for Senate Republican whip on Thursday, touting him as a “fantastic senator” who has his “complete and total endorsement.”

Barrasso announced last week that he would run for Senate GOP whip instead of continuing in a crowded race including Sens. John Thune (R-SD) and John Cornyn (R-TX) to replace Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). By running for party whip, Barrasso is unopposed.

“John Barrasso is a fantastic Senator for the incredible people of Wyoming,” Trump posted to Truth Social. “He is running to be the next Republican Whip for the Senate Republican Conference, a very important job, to ensure we pass and enact Strong Legislation that puts America First.  I know John very well — he will never let you down. John Barrasso has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”

Trump has not endorsed a candidate for Senate minority leader.

Barrasso is currently the third-ranking Republican in the Senate, serving as chairman of the Senate Republican Conference. The GOP whip is the second-ranking member of the party, and Thune currently holds that position.

The race to replace Barrasso is still heating up though, with Sens. Joni Ernst (R-IA) and Tom Cotton (R-AR) looking to fill the role.
