Sen. John Cornyn’s repost of a tweet from the ‘Republicans against Trump’ account sparked backlash from the MAGA, with some labeling him a “fake Republican.”

CBS Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Margaret Brennan made an X post on the Pentagon’s classified briefing on the impact of the Iran conflict on U.S. weapons systems, prompting a response from Cornyn in which he said, “The problem with this narrative is: so what is the alternative? Or is this just more Trump derangement syndrome? Does he prefer allowing Iran to get a nuclear weapon? Can’t we/shouldn’t we address both?”

After invoking the phrase “Trump derangement syndrome,” users on X pointed to John Cornyn’s repost from the Republicans against Trump X account. Conservative activist Scott Presler responded, “Speaking of Trump derangement syndrome, why did you repost a message from Republicans against Trump?”

Presler reposted a retweet from Cornyn from the Republicans against Trump account, which read ‘GOP Senator Cornyn: ‘I will be direct with Texas voters, Ken Paxton is unfit for this office.”

Cornyn is currently campaigning for reelection in a competitive runoff against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Presler, a strong backer of the SAVE America Act, has been vocal about his efforts to support Paxton in the election and unseat Cornyn, a strong ally of Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), to send a message to Thune.

Cornyn took to X in a direct comment to CBS chief foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan, saying, “The problem with this narrative is: so what is the alternative? Or is this just more Trump derangement syndrome? Does he prefer allowing Iran to get a nuclear weapon? Can’t we/shouldn’t we address both?”

The post drew several comments with many users attacking Cornyn.

Several users posted screenshots of the repost, with some writing, “‘Republicans against Trump’ – that’s you.”

Another said it was “no secret” that Cornyn opposes both President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement.

TEXAS SENATE BATTLE GETS UGLY AS CORNYN COMPARES PAXTON’S ETHICS TO A STRIP CLUB OWNER’S

According to Cornyn’s campaign page, he has voted with Trump 99% of the time and has been one of Trump’s most reliable allies in the Senate, backing him on key initiatives, including the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and tax cuts.

The Texas Senate runoff is on May 26.
