President Donald Trump gave a full-throated endorsement to Rep. Julia Letlow (R-LA), who is reportedly weighing a bid for Sen. Bill Cassidy‘s (R-LA) seat in the upper chamber.

Trump praised Letlow in a Truth Social post on Saturday night, calling her a “Great Star” and a “TOTAL WINNER” and encouraging the second-term congresswoman to enter the Senate race.

“I am hearing that Julia is considering launching her Campaign for the United States Senate in Louisiana, a place I love and WON BIG, six times, including Primaries, in 2016, 2020, and 2024,” the president said. “I know Julia well, have seen her tested at the highest and most difficult levels, and she is a TOTAL WINNER! A Proud Mother of two children, Julia is a wonderful person, has ALWAYS delivered for Louisiana, and would continue doing so in the United States Senate.”

“Should she decide to enter this Race, Julia Letlow has my Complete and Total Endorsement. RUN, JULIA, RUN!!!” Trump concluded.

Letlow responded to the endorsement by thanking the president and teasing her agenda.

“I’m honored to have President Trump’s endorsement and trust. My mission is clear: to ensure the nation our children inherit is safer and stronger. This United States Senate seat belongs to the people of Louisiana, because we deserve conservative leadership that will not waver,” she posted on X.

Trump’s backing of Letlow comes as she was still undecided about running earlier this week and would reportedly only enter the race if she received Trump’s support.

If she does, it would put her in a bruising Republican primary with Cassidy, who is running for a third term, boasts a large war chest, and has the backing of Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD).

But Trump’s endorsements are frequently pivotal and could lead to a GOP upset in the primary this May.

The endorsement also makes clear Trump’s dissatisfaction with Cassidy, who voted to convict the president on impeachment charges after the Jan. 6 riot in 2021. More recently, Cassidy has been a staunch critic of one of Trump’s Cabinet members, namely Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., over his views on vaccines.

Nonetheless, Cassidy expressed confidence that he would beat out Letlow should she run with Trump’s backing.

“I’m proudly running for re-election as a principled conservative who gets things done for the people of Louisiana. If Congresswoman Letlow decides to run I am confident I will win,” he posted on X.
