Former President Donald Trump said the Georgia election subversion case against him “will have to be dropped” after Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis testified Thursday regarding allegations that she had an “improper” relationship with a lawyer she hired.

Willis testified at the Fulton County Courthouse, hoping to stay as the lead prosecutor in the Georgia 2020 election interference against Trump and 18 of his Republican allies.

“There is no case here,” Trump told Fox News Digital during Willis’s testimony. “It is so badly tainted. There is no case here. There was a perfect phone call. It was perfect. But by going after Trump, she’s able to get her boyfriend more money than they ever dreamed possible.”

“The case will have to be dropped,” Trump added, calling Willis “disgraced.”

“There’s no way they can have a case. The whole thing was a scam to get money for the boyfriend,” the former president added.

Earlier this month, Willis acknowledged her relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, whom she hired to handle Trump’s case, but testified against allegations that it led to any direct or indirect financial benefit. Trump’s attorneys say Willis improperly benefited from hiring Wade because he paid for them to take multiple vacations. Also speaking during the hearing, Wade testified that he and Willis didn’t start dating until 2022 and that their relationship ended last summer.

Trump asked a Georgia judge in January to throw out the state’s criminal case regarding his alleged attempt to subvert the 2020 election results, arguing he’s protected by presidential immunity, a claim he’s repeated in other cases against him. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan ruled in December that Trump is not immune from prosecution in his subversion case in Washington, D.C.

“It’s all about trying to stop somebody who is killing them in the polls, and it is a sad thing to watch for our country,” Trump said.

“This is a total breakdown of law and order and a total breakdown of justice — it is weaponization at a level that nobody’s seen before. Nobody’s seen anything like this,” Trump added.

Willis and Wade’s relationship was revealed by Ashleigh Merchant, a lawyer for Trump co-defendant Michael Roman, a former campaign staffer and White House aide. Merchant said Willis and her whole office should be disqualified from the case and the charges should be dropped.

“You’ve been intrusive into people’s personal lives,” Willis told Merchant on Thursday. “You’re confused. You think I’m on trial. These people are on trial for trying to steal an election in 2020. I’m not on trial, no matter how hard you try to put me on trial.”
