Gas prices continue to be an important topic heading into the 2024 presidential election. With President Joe Biden deciding not to seek reelection, presumptive Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris, will have to address the high prices of gas in the country. While there has been a decrease at the pumps in recent weeks and months, today’s gas prices remain significantly higher than when former President Donald Trump was in office.

After a string of consecutive days in which the average price for a gallon of regular gas decreased, there was no change in price to start the week.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas cost $3.501 on Monday, according to AAA. This was the same price as on Sunday. This was a slight drop from Saturday’s price of $3.504 per gallon.

The average price for gas was also slightly less expensive on Monday than it was last week, when it cost $3.521 for a gallon of regular gas. It was, however, more expensive than a month ago, when a gallon of regular gas cost $3.451.

California remained the state in the country with the highest average price for a gallon of regular gas on Monday, coming in at $4.682. Mississippi was the state with the lowest average price for a gallon of regular gas, coming in at $2.986.

Washington, D.C.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Washington, D.C. on Monday was $3.703. That was a slight decrease from the day before in the nation’s capital, when gas was $3.706. A week ago, the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.709 per gallon. A month ago, people in Washington paid $3.652 per gallon.

Virginia

On Monday, the average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia was $3.418. This was a decrease from Sunday’s average price of $3.421 per gallon. Gas prices are less expensive now than a week ago, when regular-grade gas was $3.466 per gallon. A month ago, a gallon of regular was $3.326.

Delaware

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Delaware on Monday was $3.405, a decrease from Sunday’s price of $3.417. Both prices represent a sizable drop from prices last week when it cost $3.507 for a gallon of regular gas. Gas prices are less expensive, however, than a month ago, when people in the First State were paying $3.465 for a gallon of regular gas.

Maryland

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland on Monday was $3.493. It was a decrease from the day before when regular gas was $3.498 per gallon. A week ago, the price for regular gas was $3.573 per gallon. A month ago, people in Maryland paid $3.528 for a gallon of regular gas. However, prices in Maryland are less expensive than this time last year, when a gallon of regular gas cost Marylanders $3.590.

Pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania, the average price for a gallon of regular gas on Monday was $3.643. This was a slight drop from Sunday’s price of $3.647. Prices were also cheaper than from a week ago when gas was $3.680 in the Keystone State. However, today’s prices are slightly higher than from a month ago, when a gallon of regular gas cost $3.631.

New Jersey

Gas prices in New Jersey were less than the national average, with an average price of $3.439 for a gallon of regular gas on Monday. This was a very small decrease from Sunday’s price of $3.442 per gallon. A week ago, the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.49. Gas prices have, however, jumped from a month ago, when it cost $3.372 for a gallon of regular.
