The pair made the announcement during the second season premiere of their reality television program The Family Stallone on Wednesday. After 25 years of marriage and three daughters, the Stallones nearly divorced in 2022 but have since reconciled and continued living together after their daughters all moved out.

“It’s an empty nest. I need to change it up,” Jennifer Flavin Stallone, 55, explained during the episode.

“We have a lot of roots in California, so it’s not an easy transition to Florida,” Sylvester Stallone, 77, said. “But Jennifer really had her heart set on it. I gave in.”

They join over 340,000 people who moved out of California in 2022 alone, according to a study by the National Association of Realtors. California has also seen a gradual increase in more of its residents moving out than those who have moved in since 2016, according to the National Movers Study. Residents moved out at a 58% rate, with most citing family or employment as the reason behind the move.

The move-out rate has dramatically increased in recent years following the coronavirus pandemic, during which Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) enacted heavy restrictions on businesses and schools in an attempt to stop the virus from spreading.

Meanwhile, more people are moving to Florida than ever before, with the Sunshine State reporting the most migration in the nation in 2022. Its population increased by 1.9%, making Florida the top state for population increases for the first time since 1957. Last year, Florida had an inbound move-in rate of 43%, but most cited their reason for moving in was to retire.
