Republicans in both the House and Senate have raged against provisions included in the proposed “minibus” — combining six essential spending bills into one.

The legislation was proposed on Sunday, ahead of the Friday deadline to avert a partial government shutdown. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) both expressed their disapproval of the proposal and declared it the “Swamp Omnibus” over the excessive number of earmarks and lack of action on the border.

“In the #SwampOmnibus, the [House GOP] SURRENDERS key demands passed in House [appropriations] bills,” Roy wrote in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “This means MORE ILLEGALS, LESS FREEDOM, & we’ve yet to see the bill that funds Radical Progressive Democrats’ mass-release policies & NGO’s behind it.

“The #SwampOmnibus comes in the context of Congress blowing past BIPARTISAN SPENDING CAPS enacted last year… by $69 BILLION… funding mass-illegal alien releases & radical progressive Democrat-run government $30 billion MORE than Pelosi,” he continued.

Roy also contended that the minibus “gives up a key leverage point for border security,” as the topic has become contentious on Capitol Hill.

Lee echoed Roy’s sentiments about the proposed legislation, calling on his fellow Republicans in the House and Senate to reject the bill.

“The #SwampOmnibus doesn’t have to pass,” Lee posted on X. “If Republicans in either the House *or* the Senate stand united against this bill, it will not pass. Americans have had enough earmarks. And enough inflation. And enough illegal immigration. Don’t make them swallow this too.”

He also said “Biden gets what he wants” with the bill while “Republicans get nothing … but a bunch of earmarks.”

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) also took aim at the minibus, specifically calling out an earmark for Louisiana — the home state of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

“The Speaker’s state of Louisiana receives a $5,000,000 sugarcane earmark in this week’s omnibus-minibus that he negotiated behind closed doors,” Massie said in a post on X.

The minibus, which follows the $1.59 trillion top-line figure agreed upon by House and Senate leadership, includes funding for Agriculture; Military Construction and Veterans Affairs; Transportation, Housing and Urban Development; Energy and Water; Interior and Environment; and Commerce, Justice, and Science, through the end of the fiscal year.

The minibus introduced Sunday deals with the funds set to expire on Friday, with the rest of the government funds set to expire on March 22.
