American Airlines announced Tuesday that it is increasing its checked bag fee.

Previously, the airlines charged customers $30 as their checked bag fee, but now the airlines will charge either $35 for those who pay a checked bag fee online or $40 for those who pay in person. It marks the first time since 2018 that the brand has adjusted its checked bag fee, the airlines announced in a press release.

Other adjustments made to its pricing include a second checked bag fee of $45 for flights going within and between the United States, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico, which is an increase from the previous amount of $40. Additionally, checked bag fees for those traveling from the U.S. to Canada, Caribbean, Mexico, or Central America destinations are now priced at $35 for the first bag and $45 for the second, up from the previous prices of $30 and $40.

The increase made by American Airlines comes as Delta Air Lines and United Airlines still offer $30 fees for a first checked bag and $40 for a second one. With Delta, travelers can also bring a free carry-on bag and one personal item.

Southwest Airlines, meanwhile, allows travelers to fly with two checked bags for free. Those traveling to Hawaii on Southwest can also bring their surfboard for free on the flight.
