President Joe Biden mocked former President Donald Trump‘s appearance to donors as he and his campaign escalate their attacks on their 2024 general election opponent.

Biden made the comments during a fundraiser in Raleigh, North Carolina, after a part of his stump speech where he makes fun of his own age but compares his ideas to those of Trump, contending his predecessor’s ideas are older.

“I’d be happy to compare physical characteristics,” Biden told the crowd at the Raleigh Marriott City Center. “Granted, I don’t have his orange hair.”

Acknowledging that “everyone is not feeling the enthusiasm,” Biden also retold a joke about Trump’s legal bills and debt, which have accumulated with adverse decisions in his New York civil fraud case and the E. Jean Carroll matter in the same state.

“The other day, a defeated guy came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, I’m being crushed by debt, completely wiped out.’ I had to look at him and say, ‘Sorry, Donald, I can’t help you,’” Biden said.

Gov. Roy Cooper (D-NC) introduced Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris at the event, announcing that it had raised more than $2.3 million.

Biden and Harris spoke earlier at Raleigh’s Chavis Community Center about their healthcare record and proposals for a potential second term, coinciding with last weekend’s 14th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act and this week’s Supreme Court oral argument for Food and Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine through which they will decide whether the FDA wrongly approved abortion drug mifepristone.

There, Biden was heckled by pro-Palestinian protesters who asked the president about healthcare in the Gaza Strip amid the IsraelHamas war.

“They have a point,” Biden responded. “We need to get a lot more care into Gaza.”

“Leading economists aren’t making much fun of Bidenomics anymore,” he added later. “They’re thinking maybe it works!”
