Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg urged voters disgruntled with President Joe Biden to anticipate the “good that is coming their way” rather than consume negative media coverage.

Buttigieg appeared on The Weekend Saturday to address the president’s low approval rating. The latest New York Times/Siena College poll found that 47% strongly disapprove of Biden, which is the highest the poll has found yet. The transportation secretary pointed to Biden’s infrastructure bill, which has funded transit agencies, airports, and the like, to look at the positives of Biden’s first term.

“Here’s the thing: When something is uncontroversially and unambiguously good, it gets less attention. But that just means we have our work cut out for us. I’m not accepting that as a reason why these things are going to get less attention,” Buttigieg said. “We need to make sure people understand the good that is coming their way because of the president’s leadership.”

Meanwhile, the same poll that reported Biden’s low approval rating found that only 18% of respondents believed they personally benefitted from his policies. Another 40% reported that former President Donald Trump’s policies helped them personally.

Buttigieg promised to hit the road on behalf of the president to arouse more attention to the wins during Biden’s presidency. The secretary also suggested the president himself will be on the road more often to do the same thing.
