The “uncommitted” campaign in Tuesday’s Michigan Democratic primary, sparked by President Joe Biden’s support for Israel in its war with Hamas and concerns about his age, is picking up support among younger voters, according to a preelection poll.

In the primary, the uncommitted tally could reach 16%, according to a newly released Emerson College Polling/Hill survey of Michigan voters.

What’s more, more younger voters are leaning in that direction, the survey analysis said.

“In the Democratic primary, 75% support President Biden, 5% Dean Phillips, 9% plan to vote ‘uncommitted’ on the ballot, and 12% are undecided. With the 12% undecided pushed to ask which candidate they lean toward, Biden’s support increases to 77%, Phillips to 7%, and ‘uncommitted’ increases to 16%,” the new survey said.

Emerson also said, “28% of voters under 30 plan to vote as ‘uncommitted’ on Tuesday.”

That’s not good news for Biden, who trails former President Donald Trump in the fall head-to-head test, 46% to 44%. Michigan is one of the key swing states that is expected to determine the presidential election. In 2020, Biden won 50% to 47%. In 2016, Trump beat former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton 47.3% to 47%.

The Washington Examiner’s Naomi Lim reported on Monday, “The ‘uncommitted’ campaign, endorsed by Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud, and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke, is the most serious challenge to Biden’s leadership this primary cycle after special counsel Robert Hur’s report raised concerns about his age and memory.”

The Emerson survey showed that Biden is not in danger of losing the primary, but he could be embarrassed by the outcome.

But there is a hint of good news for the president. He trails Trump but is closer than the 47%-41% lead the former president had last month.
