Researchers have found that people with “woke” ideas often have a higher risk of depression and anxiety.

The new studies were published in the Scandinavian Journal of Psychology and found that woke attitudes affect people’s happiness levels.

The researchers asked more than 5,800 college students and professors about general statements widely believed to be woke, further inquiring whether they agreed with the statements.

Researchers found that a lower degree of mental well-being tended to be associated with having a higher “social justice score.”

Oskari Lahtinen, a lead study author and senior researcher at the INVEST Research Flagship Centre at the University of Turku in Finland, described “wokeism” as an American export that has spread to Europe.

“I had been paying attention to a development in American universities, where a new discourse on social justice became prevalent in the 2010s,” he said.

“The arrival of a critical social justice (often called ‘woke’) discourse sparked much debate in Finnish media in the last couple of years,” Lahtinen explained.

He added, “The gender divide was probably most surprising to me. Three out of five women view ‘woke’ ideas positively, but only one out of seven men.”

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld analyzed the study.

“The woke are more likely to be mentally ill. Wokeism is an avenue for people who are mentally unwell because it indulges in feelings of hopelessness and victimhood. It offers a low bar to grasp for meaning. Suddenly, your irrationality becomes a movement,” Gutfeld said of the study on Monday.

Gutfeld added that Democrats “have a hard time with the woke” because he says mental illness is in their family, so they treat it “more sensitively.”
