The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg argued on Monday that abortion is “not mentioned” in the Ten Commandments while discussing former President Donald Trump‘s social media video stating his stance on abortion.

“I want to make sure that if you decide this is what you need to do, I’m going to get behind you because I don’t know your life, and if you say this is what you need, that’s what I’m going to do,” Goldberg said to her co-hosts.

She added that it’s “nobody’s business.”

“It’s you, your doctor, and God. That’s who you have to be conversational to, and it’s not mentioned in the big ten, I’m just going to say,” she explained.

“The Ten Commandments?” co-host Joy Behar asked.

“God was pretty clear. Here is the stuff that will make your life better on Earth. Don’t lie because you don’t want people lying to you. Don’t mess with somebody’s wife because you’re going to be mad if someone is messing with yours,” Goldberg said, explaining her understanding of the Ten Commandments.

Catholic co-host Sunny Hostin interjected, “Evangelicals would say ‘thou shall not kill’ and it applies to it.”

“I think ‘thou shall not kill’ cannot be used as the block because we allow wars all the time,” Goldberg said.

Hostin agreed with Goldberg, “Yes, we do. We allow the death penalty. Yeah.”

“We allow all of these things,” Goldberg continued.

“We allow guns,” Hostin added to Goldberg’s comments.

“So there is some conversation to be had there, so either thou shall not kill for everybody, and everything, or we have to talk about all the things you and I have to do,” Goldberg said.

The former president shared in a post on social media that he supported in vitro fertilization and encouraged states to determine the laws for abortion while maintaining the exceptions of rape, incest, and life of the mother.

Social media reacted to The View’s take on abortion and the Ten Commandments.

“The 10 Commandments are not meant to “make your life better on earth,” one social media user said.

“I guess ‘thou shalt not kill’ doesn’t apply to innocent preborn babies,” Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life, said.

Trump followed up with several Truth Social posts on his abortion comments.

“We cannot let our Country suffer any further damage by losing Elections on an issue that should always have been decided by the States, and now will be!” he wrote.

Trump added in a separate post, “Always remember – the Democrats are the radicals on abortion.”
