The University of Connecticut Huskies defeated the Purdue Boilermakers 75-60 on Monday night to win the 2023-2024 NCAA men’s basketball championship.

UConn was led by senior guard Tristen Newton, who scored a team-high 20 points in the game. Purdue University’s star player, two-time Wooden Award winner Zach Edey, led all scorers with 37 points.

The win represents a dominating season for the Huskies. They were the number one ranked team at the end of the regular season and had the highest overall seed in this year’s annual March Madness. They won every game they played in the tournament by double digits.

It is the second consecutive championship for the Huskies basketball team, which finished the season with a 37-3 record. Last year, the Huskies defeated the San Diego State University Aztecs, 75-69. They are the first men’s college team to win back-to-back titles since the 2006 and 2007 University of Florida Gators. The victory was UConn’s fourth championship since 2011 and sixth overall.

The victory was also historic for UConn coach Dan Hurley. By defeating Purdue, Hurley became only the third active coach in the NCAA to win multiple national championships. The other two are University of Kansas coach, Bill Self, and Rick Pitino, current head coach of St. John’s University.
