Conservatives are demanding that the newest Wisconsin Supreme Court justice recuse herself from the state’s redistricting trial.

The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty, backed by Reps. Bryan Steil (R-WI), Mike Gallagher (R-WI), Glenn Grothman (R-WI), Tom Tiffany (R-WI), and Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI), are calling on the Democratic justice, Janet Protasiewicz, to recuse herself over disparaging remarks she previously made about the current districts and the funds her campaign received from the Democratic Party.

During her campaign for the position last year, Protasiewicz said that the current congressional map for the state was “rigged” by Republicans and pushed for them to be reviewed.

Conservatives claim that the ruling in 2022 that established the current map was a fair ruling and that its “least change” precedent should be followed.

“Wisconsin’s current congressional map was proposed by Governor Evers and adopted by the Wisconsin Supreme Court in 2022. Any attempt to revisit this ruling and once again alter Wisconsin’s Congressional districts is both procedurally improper and legally wrong,” Wisconsin Institute deputy counsel Lucas Vebber said, according to Just the News
