Nevada, Iowa, Mayor Brett Barker posted the photograph of the small audience on Twitter.

“Thanks to Governor @AsaHutchinson for visiting Nevada and answering questions from voters today!” Barker wrote on social media. Barker also serves as a senior policy adviser to the Iowa Pharmacy Association.

Many people on social media mocked the photo of six people at his campaign event.

“ASA FEVER IS SPREADING!!!” radio host Larry O’Connor quipped.

Another social media user said, “There’s more empty chairs than attendees.”

On Wednesday afternoon, Hutchinson posted a photo before a large crowd at an Education Commission of the States event.

Last week, he posted a photo in South Carolina of a larger crowd than the Iowa event.

“The enthusiasm was contagious,” he tweeted.

Hutchinson is vying for a spot on the Aug. 23 debate stage, only six weeks away. To be eligible for the debate stage, candidates must have 40,000 unique donors and at least 200 donors from 20 different states to qualify and receive 1% in three national qualifying polls.
