The suspect in the Buffalo, New York, supermarket shooting which killed 10 people has pleaded guilty to 15 criminal charges, including charges of terrorism and murder.

The suspect in the Buffalo, New York, supermarket shooting which killed 10 people has pleaded guilty to 15 criminal charges, including charges of terrorism and murder.

The charges were brought against Payton Gendron by state prosecutors for shooting up a Tops Supermarket in East Buffalo. He still faces several federal charges for his crimes.

Gendron killed 10 black people at the supermarket in May, with prosecutors alleging he was intentionally going after people of color in his shooting spree. Authorities in the immediate aftermath also called it a “racially motivated” shooting.

The suspected shooter also faces 26 federal charges, including 10 counts of hate crimes resulting in death, three counts of hate crimes involving bodily injury, three counts of use and discharge of a firearm during a violent crime, and 10 counts of use of a firearm to commit murder during and in relation to a violent crime. The 10 charges of use of a firearm to commit murder during and in relation to a violent crime are each eligible for the death penalty.

Gendron is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 15 for the state charges which he pleaded guilty to on Monday.
