Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) said former President Donald Trump’s rhetoric enables antisemitism.

“When you show intolerance towards everyone, which is what he does, you give permission as a leader for others to have their intolerance come out,” Christie said during a conversation with CNN’s Dana Bash on State of the Union.

“Intolerance towards anyone encourages intolerance towards everyone,” the former governor continued.

Christie’s comments were not limited to Trump. He also knocked university leaders for their responses to situations on various campuses.

“That’s been going on for quite some time not just with Donald Trump, but with university professors on some of our most elite campuses in the country, with university administrators and presidents who have been unwilling to stand up against antisemitism on their campuses,” Christie continued.

“There should be no campus in this country where a Jewish student is afraid to leave their dorm, a Jewish student is afraid to go to their classes, a Jewish student is afraid to even have a meal in the dining hall. I mean, that is outrageous and it’s wrong.”

Trump faced criticism recently for verbiage he used to describe political opponents.

In a speech on Veteran’s Day, Trump said he would “root out … radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country” if he were to retake the presidency. The White House likened Trump’s comments to those of fascist dictators in the past.

In September, Trump posted a “quick reminder for liberal Jews who voted to destroy America & Israel.” The post on Truth Social went on to appear to attempt to distance Trump from any “Nazi / Anti Semite.”

The post said Trump moved the American Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, designated Judaism as a nationality so to be protected by the Civil Rights Act, and other things.

“What Nazi / Anti Semite ever did this for the Jewish people or Israel?” the post asked.
