The Club for Growth released an ad going after former President Donald Trump for his policy on Social Security, likening it to President Joe Biden‘s approach on the matter.

The golf-themed ad, titled “Cheating,” claims that Trump’s plan for social security is “another plan that cheats people out of what they earned.”

“The Trump plan for Social Security … is no practice swing. His plan, same as Joe Biden’s, would club seniors with automatic benefits cuts — 23% in 10 years or less, putting your retirement in a rough spot,” the ad says.

The 23% cut to benefits in 10 years or less the advertisement refers to comes from the expectation of what will occur when Social Security becomes insolvent. The Congressional Budget Office estimates Social Security insolvency will occur in 2033 unless action is taken.

The Club for Growth said in a press release that it plans to air the ad on the CW while the network is airing coverage of a LIV Golf tournament being played at the Trump National Golf Club in Virginia. It also said the ad will be “placed on digital networks geofenced around the golf course.”

The Trump campaign attacked fellow GOP presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) over proposals he voted for while serving in the House of Representatives. The various proposals would have reformed Social Security and Medicare in an attempt to avoid insolvency, but an ad from a Trump-aligned super PAC claimed DeSantis voted to cut the two programs.

Club for Growth President David McIntosh told the Washington Examiner in March that Trump was the weakest candidate in the 2024 field but that the group would support the 2024 GOP nominee.

“I’m convinced that our weakest candidate for winning the White House is Donald Trump,” McIntosh said in March. “And that’s because we lost in ’18, lost in ’20, and lost in ’22.”

Trump is currently the front-runner in the Republican presidential primary. DeSantis, who declared his candidacy earlier this week, is the closest behind Trump in the polls and is widely considered as his chief rival.
