Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) was met with a barrage of attacks from fellow members of Congress after pulling a Capitol fire alarm Saturday.

Bowman, who was captured on security footage, pulled the fire alarm while his fellow House Democrat members were engaging in procedural measures to stall a vote on a continuing resolution to fund the government. Other representatives blasted Bowman, who seemingly added to distractions from a vote on the final day Congress has to submit a budget.

HOUSE PASSES 45-DAY CONTINUING RESOLUTION, SENDING BILL TO SENATE HOURS BEFORE SHUTDOWN

Rep. George Santos (R-NY) posted a TikTok that was subsequently posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, sarcastically demonstrating how to pull the fire alarm while encouraging people not to.

“PSA: especially to all the boys and girls who were students at Cornerstone Academy for Social Action because your principal may not have taught you,” Santos captioned the video, referring to the school where Bowman previously worked.

“Jamaal Bowman would be the only name discussed by the [Mainstream Media] right now if he were a Republican,” Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) wrote on X along with a video of a fire alarm.

Others pointed out that he violated a law, 18 USC 1512(c)(2), interrupting an official proceeding.

“I’m hearing Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) was CAUGHT ON CAMERA pulling the fire alarm in a House Office Building to delay the CR vote,” Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) wrote. “IF TRUE: he should be charged with obstructing an official proceeding which is a FELONY. As a former Sheriff, I’d happily slap the cuffs on him.”

“I view this as interfering with official legislative proceedings,” Rep. Andy Biggs said of Bowman. “He is an insurrectionist.”

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) referred to Bowman’s actions as a “desperate attempt.”

“He should be charged and prosecuted immediately!” Boebert wrote.

“I’m calling on the DOJ to prosecute [Bowman] using the same law they used to prosecute [Jan. 6th] defendants for interfering with an official proceeding,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) wrote. “The Democrats literally will do anything to shut OUR government down because billions aren’t going to their favorite country: Ukraine.”

Greene told a gaggle of reporters her suspicions regarding the timing of the fire alarm, noting that it happened sometime after the Majority Whip Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) called to adjourn.

“For interfering with official proceedings, Jamaal Bowman deserves to ROT in the DC Gulag where every January 6th prisoner is being unfairly held,” Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) wrote. “He deliberately put people’s lives at risk to stop official work in the House. LOCK HIM UP!!!”

“I was rushing to make a vote, I was trying to get to a door. I thought the alarm would open a door,” Bowman told reporters after the fact. Bowman referred to allegations that he intentionally pulled it to delay the vote as “complete BS.”

Congress was ultimately able to pass a 45-day continuing resolution, which will partially fund the government until the chambers can agree on a complete budget.
