Support in Wisconsin‘s State Assembly for decertifying President Joe Biden’s 2020 win in the state is growing more than 20 months after the contest.

Election committee leader Janel Brandtjen, a Republican endorsed by former President Donald Trump, released a statement on Friday prompting a rebuke from the legislator’s counterpart in the state Senate.

“Fair and honest elections are the cornerstone of our democracy and we know that the 2020 presidential election was neither fair, nor transparent,” Brandtjen said in a news release posted on Facebook. “Tyranny is at Wisconsin’s door.”

Brandtjen said she would join fellow state Rep. Tim Ramthun, a Republican candidate for governor, in pushing to overturn the last presidential election and dismissed the naysayers. “We have been told for months now that decertification is impossible, meaning there is no downside to cheating in Wisconsin elections,” Brandtjen said. “How many more times do we need to endure this election injustice?”

Biden defeated Trump by nearly 21,000 votes in Wisconsin in 2020, a result that has been upheld by recounts and court rulings that have rejected assertions of widespread fraud. However the state remains an active battleground for questioning the results and election practices during that contest.

TOP WISCONSIN LAWMAKER SAYS TRUMP CALLED ABOUT DECERTIFYING 2020 ELECTION RESULTS

In fact, Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos told a local news outlet last week that Trump keeps calling about decertifying Biden’s victory despite his insistence that such a move is not constitutional. “It’s very consistent,” Vos told UPFRONT. “He makes his case, which I respect. He would like us to do something different in Wisconsin. I explained it’s not allowed under the Constitution. He has a different opinion, and then he put out the tweet. So that’s it.”

That conversation happened after a Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling cracked down on the use of ballot drop boxes in future elections. Vos appeared to be referencing a post Trump made on his social media app Truth Social after the ruling. “It’s now up to Robin Vos to do what everybody knows must be done. We need FAIR and HONEST Elections in our Country,” Trump wrote. “Speaker Robin Vos has a decision to make! Does Wisconsin RECLAIM the Electors, turn over the Election to the actual winner (by a lot!), or sit back and do nothing as our Country continues to go to HELL?”

State Sen. Kathy Bernier, the chairwoman of the upper chamber’s elections committee, said she believed Vos has “admitted” that Brandtjen being appointed chairwoman of the assembly committee was a “mistake” and called for Brandtjen to be removed or step down from the panel, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “She will not ever be the head of an election committee ever again.”

Democrats are also troubled by efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

“Ultimately, when voting starts, if we can’t come together as a state, as a country, and say, ‘Whether we like the rules or not, we’re all going to try to get our people out to vote under them, we’re going to count the votes, and whoever gets the most votes is going to win.’ If we can’t agree on that, then we don’t have the core foundation of a democratic form of government, and that is dangerous,” said state Rep. Mark Spreitzer, a Democratic a member of Brandtjen’s committee, according to the Washington Post.

Vos, who is facing a Republican primary in August, hired former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman to investigate the 2020 election, and Gableman has urged Wisconsin to decertify the 2020 election. However, Gableman’s investigation has long faced skepticism from Democrats, including Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, who dismissed the inquiry as a circus. That inquiry is ongoing and facing legal battles related to transparency. The Legislative Audit Bureau also conducted a review of the contest and in October made dozens of recommendations for improving the voting process but said it did not find evidence of widespread fraud.

Still, the pressure has not abated. Trump again took aim at Vos on Tuesday evening.

“So what’s Speaker Robin Vos doing on the Great Wisconsin Supreme Court Ruling declaring hundreds of thousands of Drop Box votes to be illegal? This is not a time for him to hide, but a time to act! I don’t know his opponent in the upcoming Primary, but feel certain he will do well if Speaker Vos doesn’t move with gusto,” the former president said on Truth Social. “Robin, don’t let the voters of Wisconsin down!”
