Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) opened up a new line of attack against former President Donald Trump, saying his opposition to government weaponization isn’t genuine.

In an interview with RealClearPolitics, DeSantis suggested that Trump is fine with weaponizing the government against opponents and only takes issue when it happens to him.

“But let’s just be clear: Trump is fine with weaponization if it’s against people he doesn’t like,” DeSantis said.

He pointed to a complaint filed by Trump allies to the Florida Ethics Commission, in which they called “to have me ejected from the office of governor.”

He also denounced the effort by entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy to encourage all fellow GOP presidential competitors to boycott the Colorado Republican primary after Trump was removed, saying Trump wouldn’t do the same thing if anyone else were taken off the ballot.

“If one of Trump’s competitors was removed by a state Supreme Court, is there any chance in hell he would remove himself in solidarity? He’d spike the football!” DeSantis said.

DeSantis largely refrained from attacking Trump in the first months of his campaign despite weathering attacks from the former president. As the Florida governor has continued to decline in the polls, however, he has reversed this strategy, delivering increasingly bold attacks against Trump.
