A former member of the Proud Boys testified against four members and the former leader of the group, who are on trial for their alleged role in the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

Matthew Greene testified that the group was trying to generate violent interactions with antifa in the weeks leading up to the Capitol riot, per a report from ABC News.

Greene alleged that the group was “more and more angry about the result of the election,” adding, “at that point I was pretty well convinced we were heading toward a civil war.”

The former Proud Boy also stated that violence was never “overtly encouraged, but it was never discouraged, and when it happened, it was celebrated.”

Greene previously plead guilty to a conspiracy charge for his role in the Capitol riot after working out a deal with prosecutors.

Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, and members Ethan Nordean, Joseph Biggs, Zachary Rehl, and Dominic Pezzol, are on trial for seditious conspiracy charges for their role in the riot. All five have pleaded not guilty.
