The Madison headquarters of a Wisconsin anti-abortion group was vandalized overnight Saturday with at least one Molotov cocktail.

Madison police and the city’s fire department said they responded to a fire at the site of Wisconsin Family Action, a lobbying and advocacy organization, as reported by Channel 3000.

“What you’re going to see here is a direct threat against us,” Julaine Appling, president of Wisconsin Family Action, told Madison.com. “Imagine if somebody had been in the office when this happened. They would have been hurt.”

A window of the building was broken, and portions of the inside were vandalized, with at least part of the office appearing to have caught on fire from a Molotov cocktail, Appling said.

Along the side of the building, someone wrote the words, “If abortions aren’t safe then you aren’t either.”

The extent of the damage was not immediately known.

The organization, which opposes abortions and promotes abstinence within Wisconsin’s secondary education system, said on Tuesday that a leaked majority draft opinion from the Supreme Court poised to overturn Roe v. Wade could be a “huge victory” while cautioning that the ruling was not final.

“Because it is a leaked, first-draft opinion, we caution against premature celebration of what would, no doubt, be a huge victory for the pro-life cause,” Appling wrote in a statement. “If the opinion holds as it is currently written, we will have reason and time to celebrate.”
