Actress Jamie Lee Curtis gave a speech condemning homophobia and transphobia “in the name of religion.”
Curtis, 64, was at the Out100 Celebration Friday at the time, accepting the “Advocate of The Year” award. The actress has a child who has come out as a transgender woman.

“I pray that the homophobia and transphobia that is being championed in the name of religion by the right is exposed and silenced as wrong by the love of humanity that is the center of our gay and out trans community,” Curtis said. “These are very dangerous times and I’m very happy to be in a room with people who are fighting the best fight they can fight.”
Ruby, Curtis’ transgender child, was given a shout out during the speech. The actress mentioned the “courage” it takes to come out as a member of the LGBT community.
“Freedom is the goal for all LGBTQ+IA human beings,” Curtis said.

Recently, Curtis has become increasingly political. Last month, she endorsed Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) for the U.S. Senate. In her statement, Curtis claimed that “MAGA Republicans attack transgender children, LGBTQ equality” and other things, but Schiff “will always stand up to the people abusing their power.”
The actress got her breakout role in the horror film Halloween over 40 years ago.
