Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) appeared on the conspiracy theorist website Infowars to explain her support for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

In the dramatic speakership battle, which saw 15 votes before enough Republican hard-liners defected to McCarthy, Greene surprised many by casting herself as a vehement supporter of McCarthy.

Her support for McCarthy put her at odds with usual allies such as fellow GOP Reps. Matt Gaetz (FL) and Lauren Boebert (CO). Her stance also differed from some of her hard-line base. She defended herself in her appearance on Infowars.

“Well, I can just make it real short and sweet that the person you see right now is no different than the same person you’ve known over the past two years,” she said.

“And the reason why I didn’t oppose Kevin McCarthy’s speakership [is] because I knew there was no plan against him,” she continued, “because no one else was truly running for speaker. And I was also already on board with the agenda that he had set forth and that many of us had worked with him on.”

Greene has appeared on the controversial site several times while in office.

Her support for McCarthy particularly put her at odds with Boebert. Their disagreement resulted in a public spat between them.
