Colombian international pop star Shakira is set to face trial for tax fraud charges in Spain.

A Spanish judge approved the trial Tuesday after prosecutors accused the Grammy Award-winning star of failing to pay roughly $13.9 million in taxes, according to a report.

The income that Shakira, born Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, allegedly failed to pay taxes on was brought in from 2012 to 2014, the report noted.

An eight-year prison sentence, along with a fine, is being sought by the prosecution.

The 45-year-old pop star has categorically denied the allegations against her, and she rejected a proposed deal that would have seen her avoid a trial.

A public relations firm representing Shakira said all the money the pop star owed had been paid along with another $2.8 million in interest.

The court located in Esplugues de Llobregat has brought at least six counts of tax fraud against the singer.
