Several cities and jurisdictions have banned gas-powered leaf blowers, including California. The ban on the sale of gas-powered leaf blowers goes into effect in the Golden State at the beginning of 2024, but some cities in the state, like Pasadena, have already banned the use of the products.

Gas-powered leaf blowers are one of several items being targeted by activists who are pushing for more environmentally friendly products that produce less emissions.

One of the hot-button topics with gas-powered products this year has been the Biden administration’s attempts to ban gas-powered stoves. The proposed rule would make at least half of stove models in the United States ineligible for repurchase if they were in stores today.

The Department of Energy estimated the rule would save consumers nine cents per month after originally promising higher savings for consumers when the rule was proposed earlier this year. The backlash to the rule caused the House of Representatives to pass the Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act, which would prevent the Consumer Product Safety Commission from using federal funds to enforce the rule on gas stoves. The bill has not been taken up by the Senate.
