Giuseppe Canzani, 41, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm in connection with the death of Anna Torres, as reported by WABC.

Surveillance footage reportedly captured Canzani walking up to Torres’s home in Ozone Park around 2:30 p.m. After Torres opened the door, Canzani reportedly fired his gun three times, hitting Torres in the head, according to authorities.

The gunfire during broad daylight sent people in the neighborhood running for cover.

A man whom police believe to be Canzani was seen getting into a vehicle and driving off. After an hour, Canzani appeared at the police station to turn himself in.

“The male exited the vehicle, pulled out a firearm and placed it on the sidewalk,” NYPD Deputy Chief Jerry O’Sullivan said at a press conference. “There were two officers in front of the precinct for station house security. The officers successfully handcuffed the individual and removed the firearm away from the subject.”

Torres’s son’s affiliation with the NYPD is not believed to be tied to the shooting, but police are looking into whether Torres and Canzani knew each other prior to the incident, as reported by NBC4.

Torres, who worked as a spiritual reader, had recently complained about a client whom she identified as “Joey.” Police say they are investigating the complaint.
