More than 1.7 million Indiana residents are set to receive their taxpayer refund checks over the next few weeks, with all payments expected to be delivered before Nov. 1.

Hoosiers who filed their tax returns for the 2020 tax year are eligible to receive two automatic tax refund payments of up to $325 in total under legislation passed by state lawmakers earlier this year.

STIMULUS UPDATE: DEADLINE TO CLAIM $400 DIRECT ONE-TIME PAYMENTS JUST SEVEN DAYS AWAY

“People will either receive $325 — or $650, if they filed jointly — in a check,” Emily Boesen, a spokeswoman for the Indiana State Auditor’s Office, told WTHR. “By only mailing one check, we are actually able to save over $1 million, because of the fees to print, postage, and processing.”

The state began sending out checks in August, but due to a paper shortage in the state, officials warned it could take weeks before they arrive. If taxpayers haven’t received their check by Nov. 1, officials say they must contact the Indiana Department of Revenue.

All residents who filed their taxes in 2020 are eligible for a $125 taxpayer refund, which also automatically qualifies them for an additional $200 refund, according to the state. The payments are expected to come either as two separate checks, one check combined with a direct deposit payment, or as one check equaling $325.

“People that were not eligible for the $125, if they were able to receive Social Security benefits this last year, they will be eligible for the $200,” Boesen said. “How they receive that $200 will depend on how they are set up with the Department of Revenue.”
